Rebirth of Neurologia Medico-Chirurgica.

We are very happy to be marking the 50th anniversary of Neurologia medico-chirurgica (NMC). At this point, I'd like to talk about the NMC's rebirth with the January 1997 issue. At a meeting discussing the NMC's future concurrently with the 15th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Congress of Neurological Surgeons in spring 1995, then editors-inchief Dr. Keiji Sano and Dr. Shozo Ishii proposed changing to a new editorial team with Akira Yamaura as editor-inchief and Takaaki Kirino as coeditor. This change was accepted at the 54th Annual Meeting of the Japan Neurosurgical Society. We owe much to the great efforts of Dr. Akira Tamura for reorganizing the editorial team. We spent 1996 exploring possibilities for the new NMC and implementing the new editorial system. The result was publication of the journal in a quite new format starting with the January 1997 issue (Vol. 37) (Fig. 1: Former Neurologia medico-chirurgica/Shinkei Geka; Fig. 2: New Neurologia medicochirurgica). The Editorial Committee met often to determine the new NMC's themes of ``internationalization'' and ``quality enhancement.''
